Finally, I spent a Friday night pinning, stitching backs to fronts, and stacking the finished products. Et voilà! A final product was born.
I stitched and stitched, and each patch was a little faster and a little cleaner than the last. Things started coming together.
Let’s talk prep work - I presented sketches and color ideas, got those approved, then sat down with batik and stiff cotton backing.
Each pattern was traced individually from the sketches, above, with slight color and motif variation.
My coworker asked me if I would make a number of small samplers as a donation to a volunteer foundation that she runs.
The Delores Foundation (http://www.thedeloresfoundation.org/) focuses on assisting at-risk girls and young women in our often-struggling community with spiritual, social, and self-awareness. My samplers are for a group of girls participating in the Discover Me program, which helps them with social skills and self-confidence.
I’m going to post a series of photos regarding this project, from planning to execution to the finished items, over the next few days. I’m pleased with how the pieces turned out and proud to work at an agency with such caring and generous individuals. I hope you enjoy!
